Here, you’ll find some of my photography displaying interesting things I’ve encountered. The gem world is vast, with much to explore—from well-known, textbook examples to rare and atypical finds.

Fluorescent Malaya Garnet

  • A well formed and strong green trapiche emerald from Muzo, Colombia!

  • A heated sapphire from Rock Creek, displaying a yellow triangle, is reminiscent of an egg yolk. The yellow hue is the result of dissolved manganese.

  • A malaya garnet from Tanzania, with a large inclusions intentionally placed under the table.

  • Two garnets from Tanzania, this shows how the light source can have a profound effect on the stone's color.

Banded Grossular Garnet

Garnet rarely exhibits color zoning. Finding one such as this is truly exceptional since it is both colorless and tsavorite green. This intensely banded stone was the only one of gem quality found in a parcel from from Tsavo Park in Kenya. Gem cutter Lucas Evans perfectly oriented the rough to highlight these three bands. This stone measures approx. 12x6mm
